Skookumchuck Charters

  A Hiking Birdwatcher's cruise

Liz Ryan and the "Captn" were high school classmates 46 years ago and hadn't seen each other in all that time. It took Liz a couple of years to put together the right people for a cruise on Skookumchuck and Kathy Brooks, Nancy Thomas and Gabrielle Stocker ended up being the lucky ones. All were hikers and birders. Together, Liz and "Captn" convinced another classmate, Dave McKay, to come along with all the girls. Dave and Liz were the 6th and 7th persons from Hickory High School in Western Pennsylvania that have made it on board Skookumchuck.

Always plenty to eat

Oh yes, we ate pretty good along the way.
There were plenty of shrimp, salmon and
crabs for everyone.

And "Ted's famous" sourdough
hotcakes, too!

Winding down from a long day A nice way to wind down a day of hiking. After showers and good meal, a pleasant evening for conversations and relaxing on deck.

We weren't always alone but it was always peaceful.

Always peaceful

Time to say goodbye

And before we knew it, time to say goodbye.

Liz and the girls went on to Glacier Bay and then to Anchorage where they boarded the train for Mount McKinley. Dave had to return to his doctoring for a day and was then heading  to North Carolina. Hopefully, it won't be so long between visits the next time.
