Skookumchuck Charters

Kathie Gray with daughters Malaika and Anna came on board for a late August cruise with Cindy and me. It was four years ago that Kathie made her first excursion to Alaska aboard Skookumchuck. That time, except for Captn' Ted, it was all girls and the trip left such an impression that she wanted her daughters to have the same experience. This time it was all girls once again as we headed to the glaciers north of Petersburg. Nearly perfect weather and cooperating wildlife makes me suspect that two more people have become hooked into recurring visits to this awesome land. Here are some of the photos of the "girls."

Mother and daughter

Mother and daughters Malaika and Anna on a chilly morning in flat calm seas taking in the sights from the roof of Skookumchuck.

Cindy pointing out the Orcas to the new comers on a shirt sleeve afternoon.

Always curious

Always curious and willing to try most anything the girls are checking out the Dungeness we caught for dinner.

Bibs in place?  Let the crab feast begin! Cindy, Kathie, Anna and Milaika

Malaika

Last one still eating.  Malaika wins!

Of course there was time for some shore excursions.  Here, Cindy takes the "girls" to the beach in the skiff.

Excursions

Drizzly day

One of the few drizzly days all summer.

Well, maybe not quite as old growth as they would have liked, but??? Mother and daughters

Cindy

Cindy leading the way.  "Just slide down on your butt."

Malaika checking out Mom's Coho. Mom's Coho

Sashismi

Sashimi anyone?

Ice and sky combine to make quite a sight. Ice and sky

Chunk of ice

Now there's a chunk of ice! Wonder how big a wave it made when it broke off?

Getting closer.  A water fall in Tracy Arm.  Notice the color of the sea. Getting closer

The glacier .

And finally, the glacier itself!  It was an ice clogged trip but persistence pays off sometimes and even the sun came out to help us celebrate

The other celebration was, of course, home made ice cream.  Well, all the food can't come from the sea.  Here's Anna enjoying an early reward of turning the crank on the ice cream maker. Anna

Sea Lion

The sea lion rookery we visited under sail power only.

Of course, there always has to be at least one brave soul on board!  Go ahead Malaika.  The water's fine. Brave soul

Final lesson

One final lesson in skiff driving.  Someone better watch were they're going.

A top side snack while taking in the scenery isn't a bad way to travel. Snack

Cruise ship

We wondered if they had as much fun as we had.

All too soon it's time to say farewell. It was a grand trip girls! Time to say good-bye
