Skookumchuck Charters

  Rowells - Early August

David, Heidi and Kate Rowell joined us in early August for a ten day cruise from Sitka to Petersburg. Seeing wildlife was at the very top of Heidi's interest list and sailing was at the top for David. Ten year old Kate was game for anything her dad did but, for sure, reading was highest on her list. The most recent Harry Potter book was devoured within days plus several others. Whales (bunches of them at times), bald eagles (69 on one shore alone) and bears (13 in view on a single beach at the same time), fulfilled Heidi's wish list entirely. David's Hobie Cat experiences were a little more wild than those on Skookumchuck but he did put his foot down the day I wanted to raise the 4th sail. "We've already have two more up than I'm used to!" he said. Getting to shore to explore old cabins and visiting a fossil beach only added icing to an already very nice cruise.

We saw bears!  Lots of them.  At one point there were 13 black bears on the same beach.  And even though she seems pretty concerned in this photo, Heidi was pretty happy about all the wildlife we saw. Bear viewing

Family ride A family skiff ride.

And before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye.  From here, the Rowells were on to other Alaskan adventures aboard the Alaska State Ferry system.  Skagway and Juneau were all on their list.  We hope the rest of their trip went as well as the first part.  Farewell
